Contingent face on-flight problems

KARACHI: A Dhaka-bound PIA flight, carrying 55-member Pakistan contingent for the South Asian Games, was diverted back to Karachi for an emergency landing on Tuesday due to a technical fault in the aircraft.

A contingent official told The News on Tuesday that the aircraft developed a technical fault when it was almost 20 minutes away from landing in Dhaka. The pilot decided to divert it back to Karachi for an emergency landing.

It was really terrible to hear about the fault in the aircraft but all the passengers, including the Pakistani players, kept their cool and the pilot did a wonderful job and landed the plane safely here in Karachi, the official said.

The PIA flight PK-266, carrying 55 players and officials of swimming, boxing, table tennis, and wushu, had taken off from here at 9:00am on Tuesday morning. However, after addressing the fault, the aircraft then flew for Dhaka again after two hours of emergency landing.
