PCB declines to send U-21 squad in SA Game

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has turned down the invitation to send U-21 team in the 11th South Asian Games which begins in Dhaka later this month.

“As the financial terms were conveyed late to us and considering our financial constraints, we will not be able to send Pakistan U-21 cricket team to Dhaka,” director cricket operations of the PCB, Zakir Khan, said in a communication to the POA,” sources told Dawn on Wednesday.

The POA had sent accreditation and entry by name forms to the PCB on Dec 21 last with a request to return the same after completing before Dec 30.

The PCB was further informed that the issue of sponsorship was discussed with the top hierarchy of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) in a meeting on Dec 29 who declined to bear travelling, accommodation and other expenses of the Pakistan Cricket team on the ground that it (PCB) was an independent board and will be an audit objection if they provide any financial assistance.

The PCB was asked to make arrangements for uniform, travel, accommodation (US$ 26/- per head per day) and other purposes on their own or contact Bangladesh Olympic Association/organising committee 11th South Asian Games.
