DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday announced hefty cash awards for members of the Bangladesh contingent if they earn “historic” result for the nation in the 11th South Asian (SA) Games to be held in Dhaka from January 29-February 9.
Hasina made the announcement in a meeting with players and officials of the Bangladesh contingent for the SA games at the official residence of the Prime Minister.
The cash awards announced for team events are: 1.5 million taka for gold medal, one million taka for silver medal and 3,00,000 taka for bronze medal (football, cricket and hockey); one million taka for gold, 4,00,000 taka for silver and 150,000 taka for bronze medal (kabaddi, basketball, volleyball and handball).
Besides, for individual events, every player will get 5,00,000 taka for gold, 2,00,000 taka for silver and 50,000 taka for bronze medal.
The Prime Minister also promised the players that the ongoing modern training programmes for them will be continued in the future as well.
The Prime Minister mentioned that the Awami League government in the past did not hesitate to allocate necessary money for the sports sector.
“Like the present, our endeavor for sports development won?t stop in the future as well,” she said.
