Star Boxing heroes and AIBA and ASBC presidents will witness SBBIBT 2010 at Karachi
KARACHI: Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) have formally invited boxing personalities of world repute to witness the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto International Boxing tournament slated to be held here at the KPT Benazir Sports Complex from January 1 to 9 next year.
These include the AIBA president Dr Ching-Kuo Wu, the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) president Jianping Chang, the light welter-weight world champion Aamir Khan and the 1988 Seoul Olympics bronze medallist Syed Hussain Shah.
Lyari-born Syed Hussain Shah is currently imparting training to the Japanese boxers in Japan. Husain Shah is the only Pakistani boxer to have grabbed any medal in Olympics history and for his fantastic feat he was honoured with Sitara-e-Imtiaz by the government of Pakistan in 1989.
Shah, who has also to his credit five gold in the South Asian Games history, remained the best boxer of Asia from 1980 to 1988, a rare prominence achieved by any Pakistani pugilist so far.
Another jewel is the English boxer and the light welter-weight world champion Aamir Khan of Pakistani origin. His presence here in Karachi will be an inspiration for the local boxers.
Aamir, the resolute personality, won silver in the Athens Olympics in the age of 17. After that he turned to professional boxing and he has appeared in 22 professional bouts so far and is yet to taste any defeat. He is also to his credit the title of the Juniors Olympics.
