PCB Chairman Ejaz Butt's track record is awful - Abbasi

Karachi : Former chief executive of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Arif Ali Abbasi believes players’ power in Pakistan cricket is all because of the negligence from the board administration itself. Abbasi also criticised PCB Chairman Ejaz Butt's track record and believes since the 'Oval Test Controversy' Pakistan Cricket is suffering in one of the worst time ever.

“National team is not provoked by the players’ power but because of the negligence of the board administration.” Abbasi told Cricdb. “Player’s power is itself nothing instead the outcome of the slackness and mistakes by the PCB. Even it was the PCB – who knocked down Younis Khan’s confidence – which distressed his performance.”

Abbasi also questioned over the Chairman PCB Ejaz Butt and recalled his previous experience as a former PCB Chief Executive. “The track record of Ejaz Butt is very bad,” said Abbasi – who was also the managing director of Pakistan Airline. “If we recalled his[Ejaz Butt] previous record when he was the President of the Lahore Cricket Association or the national team manager or his ongoing tenor as a chairman PCB, every day is muddled up with new issue,” he maintained.

Butt, who played eight Tests in the 1950s with modest success, was also a former secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in Pakistan (BCCP) in the late 1980s.

“When I was the Chief Executive I send him on the tour of Australia as a team manager and he had tried to crop difference in the team.” said Abbasi – who served the PCB in various highest capacities for 14 years. “During the same Australia tour he distributed a quiz type form among players – in which he asked – Do you like your captain?” Abbasi revealed.

Abbasi pointed out the reason of the down fall of Younis Khan. “Ejaz Butt should have assisted Younis Khan to continue after victory in the ICC World Twenty20 in England but he drops a line to Shahid Afridi – which was the first step to yield the grouping in the team. And several other players started making lobby against Younis Khan. And now PCB is not fair with Younis Khan.”

“Pakistan cricket is still a victim of Adhocism – which is the main reason Pakistan cricket is being prevailed with the one of the worst crises ever,” he added.
