Karachi : Media Manager Pakistan Hockey Federation, Shahzad Malik categorically turned down allegations levelled by former captain Muhammad Saqlain.
Talking exclusively to Business Plus, Malik said that the selection committee under Hasan Sardar only considered merit while announcing 31 players for the conditioning camp for World Cup Qualifiers. “Selectors believe the selected players are better than Saqlain and he (Saqlain) does not deserve a place in the bunch”, said Shahzad Malik
Malik also dismissed the claim made by Saqlain that he was being forced to retire before time. “Saqlain has been a great servant for Pakistan and is most welcome if proves his fitness”, said Shahzad Malik
The PHF media manager further said “Since Saqlain is a big name and has played more than 300 matches therefore he was informed that the federation wanted to give him a great send-off in recognition to his services for Pakistan hockey”. “He contributed a lot for Pakistan Hockey and has good coaching abilities and PHF wants to utilise him in the coaching side” said Shahzad Malik
On Wednesday, the PHF named list for WC Qualifiers. The first phase of the camp will be held from 10th August to 10th September at National Hockey Stadium Lahore. The second phase of the training camp will be held after Eid.
