Pakistan Will Host 8 Nation Hockey Tournamint On neutral venue

Karachi : International Hockey Federation (FIH) has granted the permission to Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) to hold the 8-Nation Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Hockey Tournament.

Secretary PHF Asif Bajwa said that PHF will be the host this tournament, but it will be held at a neutral venue next year. He was talking to the media at Hockey Club of Pakistan Stadium Karachi after the arrival from Los Angeles, USA. Three member delegation of PHF was there to attend the FIH Congress.

“Pakistan Hockey Team will participate in four nation hockey tournament, being played in India next month and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan also granted the permission to participate in tournament”. Asif Bajwa said. Four Nation hockey tournament will be held from 31st January to 9th February next year at Chanigarh and Jalandhar. Pakistan, India, Germany and Netherlands will take part in it.

Asif Bajwa said that FIH gave assurance to PHF to award world level tournaments to Pakistan next year. In this regard FIH Coaching and Umpiring clinic will be held from 24th December this year at Lahore. “FIH has decided to constitute various committees in the next executive board meeting in February next year, and Pakistan will have full representation in those committees”. He stated.

Asif Bajwa said that the newly elected President of FIH Leandro Negre will visit Pakistan on his first official visit as president next year. “Three member delegation of PHF had various meetings with officials of different federations including India. All the federations gave assurance of their full cooperation to promote the game in Pakistan”. He said.

He said that PHF strongly condemns the terrorist attacks in Mumbai. PHF and IHF both believes that sporting activities should continue in both countries, while, PHF and IHF will have an agreement soon that hockey teams of both countries will play bilateral series for at least five years continuously.

Last month the Indian authorities refused to clear the Pakistani junior hockey team’s tour to the country for a five-match series citing security concerns.
The PHF later claimed it lost almost Rs.6 million because of the series cancellation.
