Pakistan Sports , Navy squad named for Pakistan Premier Football League

Karachi : Pakistan Navy has named 25-member squad for the Phase-II of Pakistan Premier Soccer League to resume on October 8, announced Navy's Sports Control Committee's (PNSCC) Director Sports Cdr Mehtab Ahmed here on Tuesday.

He said that the Islamabad-based team has completed the 'away' games at Karachi, Chaman, Lahore and Faisalabad and will host all 13 of their home games plus three away games at Rawalpindi and Islamabad after Eid-ul-Fitr. Navy is currently 13th in the table with 13 points from ten games and goal counts of 9-7.

The marathon 182-match event, whose 80 matches have already been played, will decide the 54th National Champion of Pakistan who will earn a berth in the 5th AFC President Cup 2009. The seamen who finished seventh in the last edition behind Wapda, Army, KRL, KPT, NBP and PIA, were the losing finalist in the 46th National Championship at Lahore in 1999, while they were semifinalists in 1948, 2000 and 2003. Their most memorable display in domestic soccer was the gold in the 18th National Football Challenge Cup last May at Karachi's People's Sports Complex under skipper M Ramzan. Navy's remaining 16 matches at Rawalpindi/Islamabad will be played in between Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha :
