PCB signs Rs 750 sponsor deal with Duabi Sports City

Karachi , 23 September : Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has signed a 3-year lucrative deal of Rs. 750 millions ($10million USD approx) with Dubai Sports City for playing cricket, though the contract subject to approved by the coming Chairman of PCB.

"Under the recently signed contract Pakistan team will play different events at the off-shore venue for three years after completion of Dubai Cricket stadium next year", Shafqat Nagmi, Chief Operating Officer told at a news conference here at Lahore.

He said the stadium is likely to be completed in February next year after which a tri-nation tournament involving, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be played there in April 2009.

The 25,000 seat stadium, which is expandable to 30,000, will have state-of-the-art facilities for players, match officials, VIPs, spectators and the media. It will be one of the most advanced of its kind in the world and the International Cricket Council (ICC), the world-governing body of cricket, has been involved at all stages of the design process to ensure that the stadium meets the relevant specifications for hosting international cricket fixtures.

Nagmi said the next two years programme at Dubai includes the participation of Pakistan in Twenty-20 events. “It is a lucrative contract which will help in overcoming the loss after postponement of Champions Trophy“, said Naghmi.

He further explained, “Through this deal we will be generating enough funds besides having a definite programme of our team’s participation in international cricket.”

He said he has signed the contract subject to approval of the coming Chairman of the PCB as at the time of signing of the contract PCB was without a chairman after the resignation of Dr Nasim Ashraf on August 18.
