Karachi: A two-member security delegation of Pakistan Hockey Federation is leaving Thursday (Today) for India to get first hand briefing from their indian counterparts on security measures being made during World Hockey Cup being played in New Delhi from February 28 to March 13.
“ The delegation comprising Shahid Pervez Bhandada and Rana Mujahid will hold important meetings with the Indian security officials who will brief them on the security arrangements made for the protection and safety of the Pakistan team and its players during the mega event “,said Muhammad Asif Bajwa, Secretary,PHF at a news conference here on Wednesday.
He said PHF had security concerns during the Cup regarding security of its team members and officials and had written to foreign office on this issue to take notice of the situation.
“ Our foreign office during its interaction with its Indian counterparts discussed the matter at length and finally it was decided that a two member delegation will visit India to review the arrangements and to have briefing on security measures made for the protection of Pakistan team “,he added.
Bajwa said the delegation will return home on February 20 and will submit its report to PHF which will immediately sending it to the foreign office for further guidance.
“ I am optimistic that we will be provided top security during the competition as World Cup is the top most hockey event and Indian Government will do its best for its smooth conduct,giving security the top priority “,he added.
He said PHF delegation will be joined by some officials of Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi and it will also inspect the route of team’s bus to venue and back to the hotel besides inspecting the venue.
Bajwa said there is no point that Pakistan team will not take part in the event as Sports Ministry has already issued NOC in this regard.
“ The visit of the security team aims to wipe out wide spread thoughts regarding security concerns. Besides we want to make sure that when our team arrives there , it is comfortable and its management is fully briefed on security measures and allied issues “,he asserted.
Pakistan team will be leaving on February 22 to take part in the Cup.
Secretary PHF rejected that security concerns can add pressure to the team and can hamper its performance. “ I don’t think that it would be a right approach to think in that way, our concentration should be on our team and its preparations for Cup as providing required security is the responsibility of the hosts “,he added.
