KARACHI: The 12th edition of National Seniors Cricket Championship carrying a handsome prize money of Rs.800,000 will be held across the country from February, 20 to April, 11. “75 teams from 47 cities from across the country representing four provinces, Islamabad and Fata will be featuring the competition,” Chairman Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA) Fawad Ijaz Khan told a joint press conference with Sindh Sports Minister Dr.Muhammad Ali Shah, Brig (retd) Salahuddin and S.M.Junaid.
He said Punjab is fielding 29 teams, NWFP 11, Sindh three and one team each from Islamabad, Azad Kashmir, Fata are taking part in the event.
Fawad Ijaz said Rs. 2.2 million will be spent on organizing the event with support of the sponsors and supporters of the game.
The matches in Southern Zone will be of 25 overs and it will be of 30 over in North Zone and players of over 40 years of age group are eligible to take part.
The winning team of national final will get Rs.150,000 and runners-up take home Rs.75,000.
Led by Nadeem Omer Karachi Reds will take on Rest of Sindh in the opening match at UBL Sports Complex Ground on Saturday.
Responding to question about the absence of officials of Sindh Veterans Cricket Association, he said because they failed to sponsorship money for holding the matches in the province they parted company with PVCA.
He said Pakistan Veterans team have played three series against India and they will start it again with the resumption of ties between the two countries.
