ICC sponsor forum takes place in Dubai

Dubai: The International Cricket Council held its third annual sponsor forum in Dubai this week. The forum was at the ICC headquarters in Dubai Sports City and was the first opportunity for the ICC to showcase its new offices to its commercial partners since moving there in April 2009.

This annual gathering provides an opportunity for senior representatives of the ICC’s commercial partners to plan and discuss their involvement in ICC events. These partners include the following:

· Broadcast partner, ESPN STAR Sports

· Commercial partners, Reliance Mobile, LG, Pepsi, Hero Honda, Emirates, Reebok and Yahoo!

· Official licensees, Cricket Logistics, Licensing in Motion, Getty Images, Sportsbrand, IMG Sports Media

Presentations and discussions this week centered on the ICC World Twenty20 2010 to be staged in the West Indies from 30 April to 16 May and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 in Asia which commences in 12 months’ time.

The ICC Executive delivered updates on both these events from operational, broadcast, marketing and promotional perspectives and solicited feedback from partners through open discussion. Highlights of the forum included presentations and discussion of the following:

Day 1

· ICC strategic objectives and current affairs in world cricket by ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat

· Achieving return on investment in emerging markets by Ten Sports’ chief operating officer Peter Hutton

· This was followed by a panel discussion on achieving return on investment from sports properties by Mr Hutton, Prem Bhatia of MD of Sports Media Limited and Doug Thackrey, Commercial Director of Mindspring.

Day 2

· Marketing and promotional activities for the ICC World Twenty20 West Indies 2010 and ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

· Corporate social responsibility opportunities for ICC’s sponsors to join the HIV/AIDS THINKWISE campaign by Clement Chauvet of UNICEF

· Commercial support for teams from emerging cricket markets such as Ireland, Netherlands, Canada, Kenya and Afghanistan competing in major ICC events.

ICC General Manager – Commercial Campbell Jamieson said: “International cricket is fortunate to have such dynamic and enthusiastic commercial partners and this forum is about cementing those strong relationships.

“The main outcome of this year’s forum was that with just one year to go until the first ball is bowled of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, all the partners must work together as they seek a reasonable return on their investment in our great sport.”

The ICC plans to stage another such gathering of commercial partners after the completion of the ICC World Twenty20 West Indies 2010, specifically in preparation for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
