Battle for T20 Cup cricket supremacy explode in action from Sunday

KARACHI, Feb. 27 (APP): Cream of country’s talent including star-studded field of all Pakistan cricketers will in action in the sixth edition of RBS Twenty20 Cup Cricket Championship which opens here at National Stadium from Sunday. Last year’s runners-up Lahore Lions led by Test opener Salman Butt will take on Quetta Bears in opening match in 13-team competition in Rs.four million prize money event at 1.00 p.m. Riaz Afridi led Peshawar Panthers will up against Multan Tigers at 5.00 p.m. and Karachi Zebra skipper by test leg-spinner Danish Kaneria will face Defending Champion Sialkot Stallion.

Former Pakistan Captain Shoaib Malik will led star-packed Sialkot side which also included Imran Nazir, dynamic all-rounders Abdul Razzaq,and Rana Naveed-ul-Hasan, Abdur Rehman, test pacemen Muhammad Asif and medium pacer Sarfraz Ahmed.
Keeping Sialkot Stallions all-round strength and firepower, they are again firm favorites to retain their crown and take away a lucrative winning purse of Rs.2.5 million.

Apart from Sialkot Stallions, led by Misbah-ul-Haq, Faisalabad Wolves enjoying the services test all-rounder Muhammad Hafeez, former Test pacer Shahid Nazir, Ijaz Ahmed Jr. Pakistan off-spinner Saeed Ajmal, international medium pacers Samiullah Niazi, Muhammad Talha, Naveed Latif are very strong unit.

Karachi Dolphins led by Test fast bowler Muhammad Sami with flamboyant all-rounder Shahid Afridi, openers Khalid Latif, Shahzaib Hasan, all-rounder Fawad Alam, fast bowler Sohail Khan, wicket-keeper Sarfraz Ahmed in the line-up are capable of reaching the March 7 finals.
Lahore Lions also looked very formidable side with Salman Butt, Kamran Akmal, Umer Akmal, Nasir Jamshed leads the batting department.
However they may not as strong in bowling with Wahab Riaz, Imran Ali and Aizaz Bin Ilyas their main strikes bowlers.

Lahore Eagles under Humayun Farhat, with Imran Farhat, Taufiq Umer, Aamir Sajjad, Khaqan Arsal, Kamran Sajid in batting and Muhammad Irshad, Muhammad Khalil can pose a threat to reach the semifinal rounds.

Teams are drawn in four groups and after the group round robin league, one top team from each group will qualify for the semifinals.

Peshawar Panthers,Multan Tigers, Lahore Lions, Quetta Bears are placed in group “A” while group “B” included Sialkot Stallions, Rawalpindi Rams and Karachi Zebras.
Group “C” got Faisalabad Wolves, Islamabad Leopards, Abbotabad Rhinos while Karachi Dolphins, Lahore Eagles, Hyderabad Hawks are in group “D”.

The entry into the stadium free. However Organizing Committee is making elaborate security arrangements to avoid any untoward incident during the course of 8-day competition.
