Rahul Dravid may be asked to undergo Maxillofacial treatment

Mumbai, Jan. 26 : Team India's dependable batsman Rahul Dravid may be referred to the Maxillofacial Surgeon for his jaw injury, according to Dr. Fazlul Hoque, the Orthopaedic Surgeon at Square Hospital in Dhaka.
Speaking to this scribe over his mobile from Dhaka minutes before his another round of examining Rahul Dravid, he said, "the injury to Dravid is not serious but we may ask Dravid to see a Maxillofacial Surgeon". It was not clear whether Dravid would take prescribed treatment in his Bangalore home town.
Maxillofacial treatment is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the mouth, jaws, face and neck. Eight years ago, Anil Kumble had broken his jaw (courtesy Merv Dillon) in the Antigua Test. Despite being in pain, he’d returned to the field and bowled 14 overs on the trot. After that, he came back home for maxillofacial surgery by Dr. Kishor Nayak.
Surgery, if needed, can help to correct cosmetic and other damages to the face as a result of the blow. In addition to cleaning up the physical appearance of a damaged face, the surgeon can address nerve damage and other issues which may cause pain for the patient. Especially if the patient is treated quickly, the long term impacts of accident damages can be greatly reduced.
Luckily, and thanks to the helmet, Dravid didn’t suffer a more serious injury. The ball, being new, was hard and anything may have happened to the former captain. Raman Lamba was killed after being hit in the head while fielding without a helmet, at short leg in a Dhaka club cricket match at the Bangabandhu Stadium some 12 years ago.
Dr. Fazlul Hoque has more than 25 years of practice in orthopaedics. "I have treated a few Bangladeshi players, but Rahul Dravid is the first overseas player under my care", he said. "Yes, I do love his game but because of my profession, don't get much time to watch cricket", he signed off.
