Tournament to break sports isolation

KARACHI – Keeping faith in government efforts to provide foolproof security to visiting athletes, the Pakistan Boxing Federation is on the verge of breaking Pakistan’s sports isolation when it organises a nine day Shaheed Benazir Bhutto International Boxing event here at the KPT Gymnasium from January 1 to 9.
President PBF Doda Khan Bhutto single-handedly took the bold steps to initiate efforts to host the event. He has been able to impress the International Boxing federation (AIBA) to approve Pakistan’s bid to hold the event. At the same time he also assured a number of Asian and African countries to positively respond to accept the invitation to come to Karachi and appear in the event which would sat a good example for other national federations to follow. Young Dodo Khan Bhutto held a briefing here the other day to inform the media about the latest developments to hold the event in a manner suiting the international image of the great slain former prime minister.
He said twenty countries have already confirmed participation in the event and send around 120 athletes and sixty officials to take part in all the eleven weight categories.
He said the PBF has received confirmation from India, China, Afghanistan, Hungary, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Cameron, Ghana, United Arab Emirate, Yemen, Bangladesh, Central Africa, Iraq, Kenya, Mongolia, Singapore and Syria. Confirmation from Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Indonesia, Nepal, Chinese’s Taipei, Palestine and Jordan are expected soon, he added.
