Karachi become new National Disabled cricket champion

KARACHI: Karachi dethroned Rawalpindi/Islamabad by three wickets to win the second Magna National Disabled Cricket Championship which concluded at PCB Regional Academy Ground here on Tuesday.

Opening pair of Rao Javed and Arif Richard starred in their team's triumph. Polio-affected Rao, playing with a runner, struck eight 4s in his 85-ball knock while Arif missed a ton by two runs, hitting seven boundaries in his 98 off 101 balls.
Rao and Arif gave their team a flying start of 208 runs for the first wicket while chasing 241 for victory.
Muhammad Altaf took all three wickets that fell in Karachi inning for 15 runs with his off-breaks.

Sent in to bat first, Rawalpindi/Islamabad raised a respectable 240 for the loss of eight wickets in 40 overs. Opener Major Hasnain Alam hammered an enterprising 106 off just 71 deliveries, spiced with 14 boundaries and one six.

Hasnain and Muhammad Altaf gave their team a great start by putting on 158 runs for the first wicket. Altaf hit three 4s in his 58 after facing 79 deliveries.

Arif Richard of Karachi, who scored 276 runs in the event was named best batsman, while Muhammad Kalam of Karachi was named best bowler for his ten wickets for 107 runs. Matloob Qureshi of Multan got best fielder award for his seven catches and Rao Javed named man of the final.

Former Chief Executive Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Arif Ali Khan Abbas, Philanthropist Haji Muhammad Ashraf, Former test batsman Basit Ali, Pakistan cricketers Khalid Latif, Shahzaib Hasan, Test umpire Mahboob Shah, Pakistan Secretary PDCA Amiruddin Ansari, Manager Muhammad Nizam, Organizer Zubair Muhammadi and other officials were also present on the occasion.
