Lankan cricketers seek armed commandos on India tour

Ahmed Abad : The Sri Lankan cricket team playing a series in India is unhappy with the security arrangements and has, among other things, sought armed commandos.

Headlines Today has accessed the Lankan team's correspondence over security matters during the India tour. In a letter to the Mumbai additional police commissioner, the Lankan team's security in-charge Lawrence Fernando has expressed unhappiness with the security provided.

The team management has expressed shock over the 'inadequate security' provided. It wants armed commandos to accompany the team bus on motorbikes.

The team has also sought 'close protection groups' armed with automatic weapons as part of the security ring. It wants English-speaking personnel for its security.

In March this year, gunmen had attacked the Lankan team's bus as it drove to the Gaddafi stadium in Lahore. Six policemen were killed and seven players and officials were injured.
