Pakistan Cricket team off to Johannesburg for Champions Trophy

KARACHI, Sep. 17 (APP):‑ Led by Younis Khan a 22‑member Pakistan cricket squad left here for Johannesburg (South Africa) on Thursday to feature in the elite 8‑nation Champions Trophy played there from September 22 to October 5. Pakistan team included 15 players and eight officials and the matches of the tournament will be played in Johannesburg and Centurion.

Pakistan is drawn in pool “A” with holders Australia, India, Pakistan and West Indies while pool “B” comprised of England, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and hosts South Africa.

Pakistan will take on Sri Lanka in a one‑day warm game on September 18 and later play a local South African combination Warriors in the second warm‑up game on September 20 before the event begins on September 22.

Pakistan launched their campaign in the event when they take on West Indies in their opening match on September 23 and clash arch‑rival India at Centurion on September 26. They will play their last pool match on September 30 against Australia.

Top two teams from each pool will progress in the semifinal rounds.

Yawar Saeed (Manager), intikhab Alam (coach) Shafqat Rana (Assistant Manager), David Dwyer (Trainer), Umer Farooq (Analyst), Faisal Hayat (Physio) and Abdul Rauf (Masseur) are officials of the team.
