Cuban Boxing coach to arrive on 27th In Pakistan

KARACHI: Cuban boxing coach Francisco Hernandez Roldan, whose’ services have been hired by Pakistan, will land here in Karachi on September 27.

“Roldan will arrive here on September 27 to take to start his term as Pakistan coach,” the secretary of the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) Muhammad Akram Khan told ‘The News’ on Wednesday.

He said that the coach will stay here at the PSB coaching centre during his coaching stint with the Pakistan boxing team.

He said initially he will start working over a pool of 25 boys who have been shortlisted during the national championship held here recently.

“We will give him the initial target to pick the best boxers of the shortlisted 25 within a month,” Akram said.

He said that the PBF plans to hold the National Under-13 Boxing Championship in Lahore in October and the coach would be asked to pick around 15 top boys from the competition so that they could be put in the camp with the seniors in order to groom them for the future.

He said that Roldan is a qualified coach and has also been associated with the Cuban national team as an assistant coach for the last so many years.

He said that recently in the World Championship held in Milan, Italy, one of the Cuban boxers who was trained by Roldan got gold medal while one claimed silver and one captured bronze medal.
