Sports Minister Jilani lauds contribution of sports writers

KARACHI, July 17 (APP):- Federal Sports Minister Pir Aftab Hussain Jilani Friday evening lauded the contribution of sports writers and journalists.

“Sports writers have made the country proud by producing informative and historic books which reminds us of our glorious past in sporting arena,” he said while speaking as a chief guest at the launch of book titled “Cricket Fever” - A History of Pakistan-India Cricket Tours authored by Senior Sports Journalist Syed Khalid Mahmood here at the Karachi Gymkhana.

“The performances of our players may have suffered because of lack of sporting links but sports writers continue to highlight the achievements of the past,” he commented.

He said book recalled the history of Indo-Pak contest since 1952-53 and it brings in fore the contribution of great cricketers of past between the two countries.

He appreciated the effort of Syed Khalid Mahmood on the book said Sports Ministry and Pakistan Sports Board will support these causes and contributions.

He urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to support such publications and ventures because they are actually promoting Pakistan cricket.

Dr Mirza Abrar Baig, Senior Executive Vice President, National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) who presided over the ceremony was appreciative of the contents of the book which he described informative and interesting.

Former Pakistan Test opener Shoaib Muhammad speaking on his behalf and that of his illustrious father Hanif Muhammad thoroughly praised the book which they thought could be helpful in revival of Indo-Pak cricket.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Prof.Ejaz Ahmed Farooqi, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, Aziz Memon, Younus Rizwani, Azeem Sarwar, Sardar Khan and Ehsan Qureshi complimented the latest literary accomplishment of Khalid Mahmood.

The book has 16 chapters, covering all the tours between Pakistan and India have undertaken since 1952-53. Mushtaq Mohammad, a former Pakistan captain, who played in the Indo-Pak series of 1960-61 and 1978-79, has penned the foreword of the book. He had led Pakistan to series victory over India in 1978-79.
