SJAS GB passes Constitution and resolution for financial help of ailing photo journalist Zafar Ahmed
Karachi : The newly formed Sports Journalists Association of Sindh (SJAS) in its first General Body (GB) meeting held on 9th, April, 2009 unanimously approved the SJAS Constitution . The President of SJAS Sardar Khan outlined the aims , objectives and future programs of the Association that included securing of Life and Accidental insurance for members, Constitution of panel of doctors for consultation of its members , holding of training workshops and media talks etc.
The SJAS secretary general Rashid Siddiqui tabled a resolution for the financial assistance of veteran ailing photo journalist Zafar Ahmed appealing to Pakistan Sports Trust, Govt. of Pakistan, and CM and Governor of Sindh to extend financial help to Zahfar Ahmed. The SJAS GB also approved to organize a fund raising program for Zafar Ahmed in May, 2009 . A sub-committee to be headed by Tariq Aslam has been formed to oversee the organizational arrangements for this program. Mr. Nasim Ahmed of KDA Officers Club voluntarily offered to provide the club services to hold fund raiser for Zafar Ahmed.
The SJAS GB also offered Fateha for the deceased mother of it member Navid Arshad and Anil Baig’s father. The GB also prayed for the speedy recovery of Zafar Ahmed, Gul Hameed Bhatti and member managing committee Nadra Mushtaq’s father .
The forum was opened for proposals and the members showed great interest in speaking out their minds. The SJAS Vice President Zubair Nazir Khan gave vote of thanks to the GB participants.
The SJAS Resolution for Zafar Ahmed
The SJAS General Body unanimously passed the resolution in its first GB meeting whereby the SJAS appeals to Pakistan Sports Trust (PST), Govt. of Pakistan, Federal Ministry of Sports, CM and Governor of Sindh in particular and other philanthropist organizations and individuals in general to provide financial help to the veteran ailing photo journalist Zafar Ahmed
for his treatment abroad who is suffering from multiple diseases and miseries after retirement.
The SJAS GB noted with regret that in Nov,08, Lt.Gen. ® Arif Hasan, Chairman PST had promised to try to provide financial assistance to Zafar Ahmed but nothing has been done despite repeated reminders. According to PST officials, the PST is only meant to provide financial assistance to sports personales and its constitution does not allow for any help to be provided to sports journalists like Zafar Ahmed.
The SJAS believes that when PST can help earthquake effected people on humanitarian ground, the PST can certainly extend financial assistance to Zafar Ahmed on humanitarian grounds having a direct association with sports. Moreover, the SJAS calls up on PST and LEGEND TRUST of Governor of Sindh to amend their constitutions so as to provide the clause enabling them to provide financial assistance to needy journalists have give all their lives for promotion of sports, sportsmen and administrators.
