Karachi : Pakistan team continued its poor run in Azlan Shah cup hockey tournament when New Zealand beat them 3‑2 to hand them over their second successive defeat of the event on Monday at Ipoh.
Pakistan was beaten by little known Malaysia in the opener and their second defeat has put them out of gold medal run in the tournament,said the information made available here.
Pakistan team was leading 2‑1 at half time and a second half sluggish display let them down in the match in which New Zealand came with full force to equalise then dumped them with a match winning goal.
Pakistan got three penalty corners in the first half and Muhammad Imran converted two in 7th and 23rd minutes.
Pariesh Bhana from New Zealand scored the first goal in 6th minute, Neik Heg scored the second goal in 43rd minute and Dein Couzins scored the third goal in 67th minute on a penalty stroke.
Pakistan team will play its third match against Egypt after the two days rest on April 9. The match will be played at 4pm (PST).
