Ministry concedes to POA on SRO, national policy

Karachi : Federal Minister for Sports Pir Aftab Hussain Jilani Wednesday assured the officials of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) that suggestions and opinions would be taken from all the stakeholders before formulating the new sports policy.
"New sports policy will be tabled very soon," he told reporters after meeting with the officials of the POA. He said that a three-member committee would be formed to examine the current sports policy and suggest improvements.

"The national federations expressed their apprehensions that they were not taken in confidence before formulation the sports policy. Now, they will be consulted before we make the changes in the sports policy, "he maintained.

"President POA Lt. Gen (Retd) Syed Arif Hasan, Secretary Sports Muhammad Ashraf Khan and Director General Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Syed Amir Hamza Gilani will be the member of that committee. We also want to enhance the understanding, cooperation and coordination among the all three units - POA, PSB and Ministry of Sports - to improve the standard of the sports in the country," the minister added.
"We are working on the same model constitution that was drafted by the POA for the national sports federations. We have identified some flaws in the working and structure of national sports federations i.e. nobody knows the electoral college of any federation. We have to make it clean and clear," Jilani said.
