Miandad appointed senior cricket adviser to China

Karachi : The China Cricket Association on Wednesday appointed Pakistan's former test captain Javed Miandad as its senior adviser on cricketing affairs.

«It's an honor for me and for Pakistan,» Miandad told The Associated Press.
Miandad quit as director general Pakistan Cricket Board in January but was reinstated on Monday after meeting with the board's chairman Ijaz Butt.
Miandad received a letter from the CCA on Wednesday offering him a role of senior adviser.

Miandad met CCA officials last month as he was appointed Pakistan's cricket ambassador to China by president Asif Ali Zardari, who is also patron of the PCB.
«They are passionate about cricket and CCA is trying to let more and more youngsters learn this game,» Miandad said.

Miandad said China has good cricketing grounds and his immediate assignment will be to streamline next year's Twenty20 event in the Asian Games and guide the CCA.
«Beside this, CCA also wants its players to get some exposure of international cricket before the Asian Games which I would try and organize _ maybe in Malaysia later this year,» he said.

Miandad, who has also had three stints as Pakistan coach, said he might assist China in organizing an international cricket tournament in which players from Asian test playing countries _ India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh _ are also invited.
«By doing this, more and more young Chinese could be attracted toward cricket after they watch star players in action,» Miandad said.

China's national team is coached by former Pakistan test fast bowler Rashid Khan.
Miandad played 124 tests and scored a Pakistan record of 8,832 runs with 23 centuries.
