IBSF WORLD SNOOKER CHAMPIONSHIP – 2008

Karachi : Pakistan National Snooker Team Practice Camp is already in progress from 13th Oct. 2008 at the Karachi Club. Saleh Mohammad and Khurram Hussain – Ranked No. 1 & 2 respectively who will be representing Pakistan in above World Championship are in regular attendance.
Visas for the Pakistan Snooker Team has already been submitted at the Austrian Embassy in Islamabad and are in process and expected to be granted by Friday 24th October 2008. The Pakistan Billiards & Snooker Association is thankful for the co-operation and support of the Honorary Consul of Austria in Karachi and the Visa Counselor of the Austrian Embassy in Islamabad in providing their kind assistance for obtaining the Visas for the Pakistan Snooker Team.
PBSA President Mr. Alamgir A. Shaikh traveled to Islamabad to meet the officials of the Pakistan Sports Board regarding the release of the Special Grant for participation in the World Championship. The Pakistan Sports Board Officials have declined to release the Special Grant due to the reason that the funds allocation has to be approved by the Pakistan Sports Board Finance Committee in their meeting which is scheduled in November / December 2008. The only authority who can release the Special Grant before the meeting is the Federal Minister for Sports.
The PBSA has also officially requested the Chairman, Pakistan Sports Trust, General Syed Arif Hasan for Financial Assistance due to immediate unavailability of funds from the Pakistan Sports Board. Since the Pakistan Sports Board at present is not in position to allocate any Special Grant to the PBSA. We have once again approached the Pakistan Sports Trust and officially requested for the necessary financial assistance. It would not be out of place to mention that the Pakistan Sports Trust has always supported the PBSA on many occasions in the past and has come to the rescue of PBSA by providing financial assistance.
The PBSA has never missed participation during the past 20 years in the Asian or World Snooker Championships and we feel that if the required funds are not provided it would be a big disappointment for Snooker in Pakistan and Pakistan would miss participation in the World Snooker Championship for the first time in 20 years. .
