MULTAN HOST FOUR-NATION FOOTBALL EVENT NEXT YEAR
Karachi, 24 September : World Cup 1982 gold medalist Paolo Rossi (Italy) and Brazilian superstar in World Cup 1986 Antônio Careca will be among distinguished guests when four prominent clubs will show their mettle in international event. Multan's Qasim Bagh Stadium, which hosted National Championships in 1958 and 1975, has been picked as the venue of the event to be organized in February-March 2009 alongside Jashn-e-Baharan.

"Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) will provide all out support to Italian-Pak Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Islamabad (IPCCI) 's President Ettore Marzocchi and District Nazim Multan Sheikh Faisal Mukhtar for making the event a memorable occasion. An IPCCI delegation has come up with the idea of organizing an international tournament in Pakistan and their step would go on to increase the level of the game and people's interest in it here in Pakistan," said PFF Secretary General Lt.Col ® Ahmed Yar Khan Lodhi.

Pakistan Sports Board's Director General Syed Amir Hamza Gilani, Ministries of Sports, Foreign Affairs, Interior, Information & Broadcasting and Government of the Punjab also assured full-fledge support to IPCCI who invited well-known clubs from Brazil, Italy and South Korea to participate in the tournament as well as Mayors of Sao Paulo, Seoul and Rome.

Marzocchi showed eagerness to introduce Punjab Province's city Multan as one of the oldest living cities all over the world and converting it into a tourist attraction. Known as the 'City of Saints', Multan is located in the southern part of the province and the city itself is the sixth largest within the boundaries of Pakistan.

It is worth mentioning that PFF organized nine international events in 56 years from 1947 to 2003 with pathetic 18% events on Pakistan soil as compared to muscular 67% of Faisal Saleh Hayat-led PFF from 2003-2008 that already hosted four events and Multan's show will be their fifth in line.
